Places worth seeing - made to remember
Minden - well worth seeing
Strolling through Minden's upper and lower city is almost as versatile and diversified as Minden's history. In those header brick cobbled small lanes you can feel relegated back to the middle age when craftsmen and grocers followed their trade in narrow tightly connected timbered houses.
Closeby you will come across the proud and representative merchant and gentry houses of the 16th century, which procure an impressive image of the self confidence and wealth of this era. Inbetween many romantic angles and old facades overgrown with ivy invite you to stay and enjoy a silent view.
The cathedral, more than 1000 years old, which combines romanic and gothic architectural styles in a harmonic way, is known as the most beautiful hall church in Germany, do not miss out on visiting it. A few steps further ahead the town-hall with the oldest town-hall alcove in Westphalia is located.
Vivid shopping streets and shopping malls take turns with silent lanes and wide squares. Many buildings which have been destroyed in the war or by fire have been built up and restored affectionately by Minden's people.
Romanesque, Gothic, Weser renaissance, Classicism and Historism from the cityscape and add the distinctive charme. Here you can get away from it all for a few hours and enjoy the magic of Minden.
