Southern neighbours: Porta Westfalica and Bad Oeynhausen
Porta Westfalica, literally “the gate to Westphalia”, connects the southern Weser highlands (Weserbergland) to the lowlands to the north. This area is an ideal start point for hiking or cycling trips. Eleven long-distance trails begin, end, or lead through the slopes of the Weser and Wiehen hills, some passing below the Emporer Wilhelm Memorial. Nearby one can find the spa town of Bad Oyenhausen which was founded 150 years ago.
Here guests can relax and unwind. The impressive Imperial Palace (Kaiser Palast) and spa (Bad) stand as testaments to the long history of the local spring.
