Once upon a time anno 798...

Zu Gast im historischen Minden...when Charlemagne held an empire convention in Minda. This lead to the first time that Minden was mentioned inside the frankish empire annals and marked the prelude to more than 1200 years of the city's history.

Around 800 Minden became a bishop's see and the first simple cathedral was built. The broad privileges of the city from 977 included the right to coin money, to set up markets, to collect duties and to maintain a court of law. The cornerstone for the development of an episcopal Minden was laid. The market business which took place at today's market place and at the 'Scharn', attracted commerce, handcraft and trade. By being connected to merchant hanseatic cities a cross-border exchange of goods took place in the middle age.

And Minden was growing. The Marie- and Simeon-suburbs as well as the fishermen city developped. Even today many buildings prove that Minden was a booming city after the reformation.

Also the years when Minden was under the rule of Brandenburg-Prussia left its still visible marks. They invite to stroll through the centuries...
