Minden is a city with history going back more than 1200 years. Traces of the city's development are still visible everywhere toady.

 The history of Minden's cathedral starts at the end of the 8th century with building a simple hall church without a tower on the cathedral hill.

The art of building also took advantage of the rising economy in Minden during the 16th century.

After the peace of Westphalia in 1648 Minden became brandenburg-prussian administratiVe, fortress and garrison town. You will find traces of this period everywhere in town.

After a long period of planning in 1906 there was the start of a giant building project : The Rhine-Weser Canal. Since then the canal takes a 'jump' over the river 'weser'.
